Laureen’s passion for creative artistic expression stems from her childhood years. As a teenager she moved into oil painting. As a mother, she created chalkboard illustrations for her children’s classrooms, then later as a teacher she had opportunities to paint murals for schools. Also small and large theatre set back drops.
As a mature-age student atDeakinUniversity, Laureen majored in Art where she explored the use of acrylic painting. This medium became her preferred paint until she discovered watercolours, with valuable sessions and workshops gained with various Melbourne teachers. Colours and contrasts of the land and sea provide great inspiration for many subjects.
Essentially Laureen is a realist by nature, but likes to explore the use mixing realism with contemporary styles. Watercolours provides opportunities to work impressionistically, as required.
Teachers of influence include: Robert Wade, Malcolm Beattie, Kevin Boucher and currently, Greg Allen.
Laureen has shared in small exhibitions and sold paintings in Australian eastern States. She also enjoys Australian landscape photography and mural painting.
